Mark Belloni is a public historian and genealogical researcher based in central Indiana with a deep passion for local history and heritage research. He holds an undergraduate degree in anthropology from Indiana University Indianapolis (focus on historical archaeology and historic site research) and a master's degree in public history from IU Indianapolis, with emphasis on historic preservation and landscape history. His personal genealogical journey—tracing his Italian and Romanian immigrant ancestry—culminated in obtaining Italian citizenship by descent in 2014. Mark has assisted with archaeological research and excavations at a 19th-century pioneer homestead in Sheridan, Indiana, and a 17th-century sugar plantation in Antigua, West Indies. He founded Belloni Research Consulting to provide professional historical and genealogical research services to individuals, families, and organizations. He also writes a biweekly history and historic preservation column for The Republican (Hendricks County's local newspaper) and lives in an 1880 Italianate farmhouse he has been restoring with his wife Teresa since 2018.
