Torhild Shirley was born and raised in Bodø, Norway. After working in tourism as a tour guide, she completed education as a technical translator in 1994 and earned an associate's degree in finance in 1997. With over 30 years of research and client work experience, she specializes in Scandinavian genealogy across Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. Fluent in Norwegian and proficient in Swedish, Danish, French, and German, she is familiar with Gothic handwriting in Scandinavian records. She earned accreditation as a professional genealogist through ICAPGen in 2021 after thousands of hours of study. Currently enrolled at BYU-I majoring in Family History Research with Scandinavian emphasis. She is one hour from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and maintains contacts in Scandinavia for on-site research access. Member of multiple Scandinavian genealogical societies and the Association of Professional Genealogists.
