Terms of Service

Last updated: May 10, 2026. By creating an account or using Visit My Roots, you agree to these terms.

The service

Visit My Roots lets you upload a genealogy file (GEDCOM), explore ancestor locations on a map, build a multi-day trip plan, and—if you have an active paid subscription—generate downloadable travel guides with narrative content derived from your tree.

Free and paid tiers

Free accounts may use upload, tree analysis, the ancestor map, and trip builder. Guide generation and PDF download require an active paid subscription processed through Stripe. Fees and plan details are shown on the Pricing page and may change with notice on that page.

No genealogical warranty

Family trees and places come from your files and from automated interpretation. We do not guarantee historical accuracy, completeness, or that locations are safe or accessible today. You are responsible for verifying facts, respecting property and local laws, and making safe travel decisions.

Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the service, including by:

  • attempting to access other users’ data or break security;
  • uploading malware, unlawful content, or files you do not have rights to use;
  • reverse engineering or scraping the service in ways that harm availability;
  • using generated content or the platform to harass, defraud, or violate others’ rights.

Accounts and termination

You must provide accurate registration information and keep your credentials confidential. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or create risk. You may stop using the service at any time; subscription cancellation is handled through Stripe’s billing portal where applicable.

Intellectual property

We own the Visit My Roots software, branding, and guide templates. You retain ownership of the genealogical information you supply. We receive a limited licence to process your content solely to operate the service for you.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Visit My Roots and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, travel based on generated content, or third-party services (maps, payments, hosting). Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty euros if you have not paid.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases our liability is limited to the minimum permitted by law.

Changes

We may update these terms. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be indicated by updating the date above.
